Step one: the foundation
Three answers set the groundwork: what the connection is for — friendship, mentorship or romance — whether it plays out in the modern world or a fantasy one, and how your companion identifies.
Pulse Mate is a companion platform for adults, where every member ends up with an AI partner of their own: answered into being through a short wizard, matched against our catalog or built from scratch, given a face, a backstory and a personality, and then talked to every day.
A companion here is a character you define rather than one you pick off a shelf. You choose what the connection is for — friendship, mentorship or romance — whether it plays out in the modern world or a fantasy one, and how your companion identifies. You then choose the traits they think and act from, write or generate their backstory, and settle their looks as either a realistic portrait or an anime-styled one.
From there the conversation is the product. You chat in the browser, your companion answers in the voice you set — immersive narration, natural dialogue with small gestures, or spoken words only — and the relationship builds from what the two of you have already said.
Live voice and video sessions, and the premium PulseMateVibe tier, are still being built. They appear in the interface as previews: no call is placed, no payment details are collected and nothing is charged today.

Three to seven traits, drawn from core temperament, expressive habits and values, plus up to three shared interests. Traits that read as flirtatious or risque are marked, because they set the tone from the first message.
Your answers are ranked against our catalog so you can browse companions who already fit, read their profile and lore, and take one as yours — or open the creator and build one from nothing.
Plenty of sites hand you a character and a text box. These are the parts of Pulse Mate that are ours.
The creator is three tabs — identity and backstory, personality, appearance — with an identity blueprint that follows you through all of them, so you always see the companion taking shape beside the field you are editing.
Leave the story blank and it is generated from everything you have already chosen: the name, the occupation or title, the world and the traits. Anything you wrote by hand is kept and shapes the result.
Portraits come from guided choices — age, build, skin, eyes, hair, facial hair, attire — from a prompt you write yourself, or from a reference photo you crop to frame. Realistic or anime, the look carries through every later picture.
Novel and story for vivid narration, expressive chat for natural dialogue with small gestures, or pure dialogue for spoken words only. It is a setting, not a style you have to prompt for.
Your companion has a private read on the conversation, shown as a thought bubble beside their portrait rather than folded into what they say out loud.
A relationship meter tracks how far the two of you have come, and notifications bring you back when there is something waiting.
Pulse Mate is for adults: an account needs a birthday that puts you at eighteen or older. Companions are fiction written by an AI model — they are not people, they are not professionals, and nothing they say is advice to act on.
You stay in control of what exists. A companion can be edited, its portraits removed and the companion itself deleted, and deleting your account from account settings takes your profile, companions and conversations with it. Details are in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Most questions about accounts, the companion wizard, memory and subscriptions are answered on our frequently asked questions page. If something still is not clear, reach out from your account settings and a human will get back to you.
